HYNDMAN - Fannett-Metal chased Hyndman by just four points after one quarter of play in Thursday night's District 5 Class A boys basketball first-round game.

From there Brad Torbet took over, scoring 24 of his 30 points in the middle quarters to lift his No. 3-seeded Hornets past the Tigers, 73-44.

"We played a good first quarter," F-M coach Greg Best said. "After that they got the lead and we couldn't get anything going."

By halftime the Tigers faced a 20-point deficit. F-M shot just 25.5% in the game.

Hyndman (17-6) limited the Tigers' big three - Jordan Hurrell (16.3 ppg), Walker Bannister (15.8 ppg) and Trevor Reisinger (13.8 ppg) - to 11, 13 and 5 points respectively.

Bryce Chilcote led the Tigers (11-11) with 10 rebounds.

The loss ends a season with the Tigers on a 3-8 skid after jumping out to an 8-3 start.

Best said, "We started off very well, with the kids playing good ball. I was glad we got big wins, but we definitely ended the season on kind of a sour note. We definitely faced adversity with injuries at the end and never overcame them to get back into the swing of things."
