Dominant first halves led South Western and Dallastown to wins in the YAIAA boys' basketball quarterfinals on Saturday evening at Spring Grove High School.

South Western crushed Eastern York 53-30, and Dallastown knocked off Delone Catholic 68-59, setting up the third meeting of the year between the two Division I foes at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Red Lion High School.

South Western beat Dallastown twice by a total of seven points during the regular season."We know South Western from playing them in the division," Dallastown head coach Mike Grassel said. "They are a well coached team, and (Parker) Bean and (Mike) Duffy are two of the best athletes in the state. We are going to go back and watch our games against them. We obviously have quite a bit of tape on them."

"(We are) just looking for any new tendencies," South Western head coach Nathan Brodbeck said. "Dallastown has two young kids that are playing with a lot more confidence since we played them last, and we have a few young kids stepping up as well. The biggest thing is to look for new tendencies."

On Saturday, South Western rolled to a 33-5 halftime advantage, holding Eastern York scoreless in the second quarter, and allowed just two field goals in the half.

"That quick start was the game," Brodbeck said. "It gave us the cushion to be able to play well the rest of the way."

Bean and Duffy led the team with 13 points, and the cushion allowed them to sit for large portions of the second half.

Dallastown, meanwhile, did not have the same luxury down the stretch in its game.

The Wildcats built a 28-20 lead at the half, and four third-quarter 3-pointers from Ethan Sutton helped push the advantage to 17, but Dallastown had to hold on over the game's final 11 minutes.

Delone chipped away to bring the deficit to 11 at the end of the third, and then the comeback effort began in earnest with a fervent fourth-quarter push.

Dallastown led 56-46 with 3:45 to go, but Delone's Devon Moore trimmed the lead to eight with a put-back layup off a teammate's missed free throw.

Then, Jim Dooley's Delone trap began to force mistakes.

Brett Smith scored a breakaway layup off a pass from Tanner Orndorff, and Dallastown answered with one free throw by Mitch Small with under three minutes to go.

Smith was fouled around the two-minute mark and hit both free throws to make it 57-52, and then Orndorff anticipated the passing lane on the inbound pass and stole the ball. He dished it off to Andrew Austin for a layup.

Smith forced Sutton back to halfcourt after the ball was brought up on the ensuing possession and then stripped the ball from behind and found Orndorff for a wide open layup to make it 57-56 with 1:47 to go, but Dallastown allowed the Squires to get no closer.
