York Catholic (13-1, 8-0 Division IV) used a span of 97 seconds midway through the second quarter to extend its three-point lead to 11 points at 24-13.
A 3-pointer by senior Morgan Klunk and buckets by Marissa Ressler and Emma Keffer fueled the rally.
"Dallastown is a fine team," York Catholic coach Kevin Bankos said. "That was a real test for us. I'm not totally happy with our play tonight, but we are coming along."
Dallastown (12-4, 8-1 Division I) went 4:40 without scoring in the second quarter until Amari Johnson put back an offensive rebound with 1:03 left before halftime to cut the lead to nine. A Dallastown layup with 19 seconds left by Shannon Thomas made the score 24-17 at the half.
"Amari did a good job for us," said Dallastown coach Mary Manlove of her 6-foot-1 sophomore. "She has a big heart and battled inside for us."
The Wildcats used the first minute of third quarter to rally. Another Johnson offensive rebound basket and a Shae Grim layup after breaking the Irish press brought Dallastown to within three at 24-21.
"We showed a lot of heart coming out there like that in the third quarter," said Manlove, who enjoyed a homecoming of sorts as she graduated from York
The Irish managed to hold onto a 33-29 lead after three quarters but quickly extended the lead to 10 points with 1:51 remaining on two free throws by Klunk.
That seemed like a safe enough lead, but York Catholic proceeded to sink only 2-of-8 free throws the rest of the way until Zaenna Echevarria made two with nine seconds remaining.
"That isn't the way we want to close out a game," Bankos said. "It's not something I'm going to worry about though. You have games like that once in a while. I'm just thankful it is now and hopefully not later in the season."
Dallastown outrebounded York Catholic by a 27-24 margin, including a 17-10 edge in the second half, but shot only 2-of-10 from the field in the final quarter and 6-of-20 in the second half.
Klunk had a game-high 13 points, and Echevarria added 12 points for York Catholic. Thomas scored a team-high 12 points for Dallastown.
"Morgan is our rock," Bankos said. "She does a good job for us in all phases of the game. She distributes the ball well and finds the open player, and she can knock down big shots for us. She is a smart player. When she picked up her third foul (midway through the third quarter), I had no intentions of sitting her. All I have to do is tell her, and she knows what she has to do."
