Cheyenne Hassler and the Elco girls' basketball team were simply just too much for Manheim Central to handle Monday night.

Hassler scored 13 of her game-high 21 points in the first quarter, and the Raiders shut out the Barons in the second quarter en route to a 51-39 Section Three triumph. The win improved Elco's record to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in league play.

The Raiders led 19-11 after eight minutes of play and scored the only four points of the low-scoring second quarter to build a 23-11 halftime lead. The Barons cut into the lead slightly in the third, trailing 29-20 by the start of the fourth quarter, but Victoria Sweatlock netted six of her 10 points on 4-for-4 free-throw shooting in the final period to salt away the victory.

  • Palmyra 64, Trinity 58: In Camp Hill, the Cougars ran their season-long winning streak to 11 games behind a balanced scoring attack that saw five Palmyra players score at least eight points. Carly Richardson led the way for the Cougars (7-0 Keystone Division) by scoring 11 of her game-high 19 points in the first quarter.

    Katie McClellan added 15 points, and Gabi Gundermann chipped in with 11 for Palmyra, which led 30-29 at halftime before putting the game away with a 17-9 run through the third period. The Cougars were 11-for-12 from the line in the fourth quarter to keep the Shamrocks at bay.

    South Lebanon, the Falcons got a breakout performance from Alex Rich, who hit for 20 points and was 12-for-14 from the line in the Section One win. Crest has now won two straight and is 4-7 overall and 3-4 in the L-L.

    Trailing 10-6 after one, the Falcons rallied to take a 25-22 halftime lead and outscored the Red Tornado 27-17 in the second half to win going away. Cedar Crest made 13 of its 17 free throws in the final period to keep control of the game.

    Rachel Miller supported Rich with an 11-point effort, and the duo combined for five 3-pointers.

  • Northern Lebanon 51, Donegal 45: In Mount Joy, the Vikings used a 15-2 run through the second quarter to stay in the thick of things in Section Three. Now 8-4 overall and 5-2 in Section Three, Northern Lebanon got a huge 21-point effort from senior forward Taylor Smith, as well as 15 points from point guard Mariah LiBrandi.

    A 22-point fourth quarter by the Indians (1-6 in Section Three) made the game look a bit closer than it actually was, since the Vikes entered the final period up 38-23.

  • Elizabethtown 46, Lebanon 42: In Elizabethtown, the Cedars suffered their second straight gut-wrenching Section Two loss after managing just one third-quarter point. Lebanon (5-7, 3-4 Section Two) fell to Cocalico, 44-42 in overtime, on Friday but appeared poised to right the ship after taking a 28-23 halftime lead on the road.

    But then the came the third quarter, where the Cedars' one-point showing got them outscored by 10 and put them into a hole they could not escape. Lauren Chambers was again a bright spot for Lebanon with 15 points.
