The Hanover High Nighthawks dominated Dayspring Christian from start to finish, winning the boys' championship game of the Christian School of York Holiday Tournament, 71-34, on Friday night at Christian School of York.

The Nighthawks had too much size and athleticism for Dayspring as they jumped out to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter. Drew Vogel and Dylan Krieger both had six first-quarter points.

The Nighthawks then went on a 15-0 run to start the second quarter and put the game out of reach. Krieger added eight second quarter points as Hanover outscored Dayspring 28-8 in the quarter.

The Nighthawks received a balanced scoring effort, having four players score in double digits, led by sophomore Dylan Krieger's 18 points. Krieger and Drew Vogel were named to the all-tournament team.

In the consolation game, Fairfield rebounded from a loss Thursday night to Dayspring to defeat the host school, Christian School of York, 44-33.

The Green Knights trailed 24-22 heading into the half, but their defense led the way in the second half as they played a suffocating press and allowed a mere nine points all half.

Fairfield got it done at the free throw line, sinking 11-of-15 from the charity stripe. Their last seven points were all free throws.

Derek Whalen led the way for Fairfield with 12 points, followed by Zach Ott's 11.

The changing point for Fairfield came at the start of the second half. CSY came out and scored on its first possession to take a four-point lead, but then Fairfield held them scoreless for more than 6 1/2 minutes while going on a 10-2 run.

O.B. Gesese led the way for CSY with 10 points.

Whalen was named to the all-tournament team.

Meanwhile, the Fairfield girls' basketball team had been struggling to start the 2012 season. That was, until the Christian School of York tournament.

The Green Knights upended Christian School of York, 46-31. to earn the championship. Fairfield came into the tournament with only one win and doubled that over the course of the two days.

"We lost a few close games early in the year," Fairfield head coach Ken Brown said. "We are coming along. Our girls play hard. This is a really good win."

In the first half, the Green Knights struggled to stop CSY's Jordan Miller. Miller scored all of her eight points in the first half and kept the Crusaders in the game as Fairfield took a 17-14 lead into the half.

The second half was a different story. The Green Knights switched from a 2-3 zone to a man-to-man defense in which they had their top defender, Kelly Quealy, locked on Miller. Quealy did a phenomenal job on Miller and held her scoreless the entire half.

"She is the lock that holds the hold thing together," Brown said. "She can pretty much freeze almost any team's best player and she showed that in the second half tonight. She is our best defender."

The Green Knights came out and dominated the boards in the second half.

"Kayla Luckabaugh had 13 rebounds for us tonight," Brown said. "Annie Roberts is really coming on. She had 15 rebounds for us."

Brown added, "It is a lot easier to go to practice on Monday when you win something like this. We were 1-6 coming into this tournament, so to come away with two wins is huge."
