WILLOW HILL - In "a sweet win," as Fannett-Metal coach Greg Best put it, the Tigers did something they and many other teams rarely do: defeat Tussey Mountain.

The 89-80 Sideling Hill League and ICC win Friday night was also Best's 100th career victory as the Tigers' coach.

Walker Bannister and Jordan Hurrell each poured in 27 points to lead the Tigers (3-1, 2-1 SHL, 3-0 ICC), who also got 16 points from Bryce Chilcote and 14 from Trevor Reisinger.

F-M shot a whopping 45 free throws, connecting on 33, while the Titans made 16 of 30 at the line. Reisinger pulled down 13 rebounds, followed by Bannister with 11.

Best said, "We shot very well from the line and the field. We played with a ton of confidence. The kids left everything on the floor and everyone contributed."

Fannett-Metal led by 20 points with 3:31 left in the third quarter, then the Titans fought back and cut the deficit to five in the middle of the fourth period. Then the Tigers scored three straight layups by beating Tussey's press to increase the lead to 11 and followed by hitting 12 of 16 free throws in the final quarter to clinch the victory.

Best said, "I didn't know this until tonight: Jordan Hurrell told the guys after practice that this would be my 100th win, and that they had something extra to play for. So it was a sweet win in many ways, especially to beat Tussey."

Eric Husick led the Titans (3-2, 2-1 SHL) with 27 points.
