The York Suburban girls' volleyball team utilizes all kinds of motivational phrases.

Every game coach Sonia Guyer posts a new one. Ralph Waldo Emerson and Eve Sawyer have been utilized. This week features quotes from legendary football coach Vince Lombardi.

But only one phrase is repeated over and over: "Go get it."

After two losing seasons and watching the boys team raise a championship banner in the gym, the Trojans are out to get their own.

"It's our time and we are going for it," senior Luci Billet said.

York Suburban is off to a good start after beating host Eastern York in four games, 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-15, Wednesday night. The win improved the Trojans' record to 5-0.

"These girls are so hungry for it this year," Guyer said. "We struggled the last two years, and they are ready to make a name."

The Golden Knights (3-1) entered the game undefeated as well, but never found the consistency to keep it that way.

"My team likes to make me gray. They are very up and down and they either really consistent or they are not," Eastern York coach Jennifer Reichard said. "Unfortunately tonight, Suburban was just the better team. They played really well together as a team. We just couldn't finish on some long rallies."

It didn't seem that way in the first set, when Eastern held on for a 25-22 win.

second set and never looked back.

The slow starts are beginning to become a staple for the Trojans, according to Guyer. They've built a habit of losing the first set in tournaments before attacking in the second. Guyer made a point to remind her team again after losing the first set.

"We had a nice discussion during the huddle at the switch that every time we did that in the tournament, they would come out and come out screaming," Guyer said. "And it made the difference in the second set. They had the confidence to build on and they went for it."

Juniors Kayla Gibbs and Morgan Lehman led the way.

Gibbs finished with 11 kills and 17 digs.

"We remembered last year, and last year our team would have just laid over," Gibbs said. "This year we are different and we wanted to prove that."

Lehman had 14 kills and seven digs.

Senior Alexis Gettle had three kills, nine digs, 30 assists and one block. Junior Lindsay Saxman added 30 digs.

"We have been working so hard in practice," Gibbs said. "It just feels so good to actually be good this year."

Senior Lexi Rhein led Eastern York with 16 kills and 18 assists.

The game was supposed to be played Tuesday night, but was pushed

"That was a little strange, I've never had a volleyball match canceled because of weather. We play indoors," Reichard said.
