ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: MAY 20 TO MAY 25

Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Marshay Ryan, Chambersburg: Ryan won Class AAA state titles in the triple jump and long jump -- her fourth and fifth PIAA gold medals. She three-peated in the long jump and set a personal best with a leap of 19 feet, 10 inches. She repeated in the triple.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Ben Mason, Shawn Wolfe, Mark Bachman, Eric Bowman, Jeff Inman, Annville-Cleona: The five athletes combined to win two relays (1,600 and 3,200) in Class AA at the PIAA track and field championships. The 3,200 relay team of Bachman, Inman, Mason and Wolfe won by eight seconds.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: MAY 13 TO MAY 18

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Morgan Day, Kennard-Dale: She scored 10 goals -- more than her opponent -- as the Rams opened District 3 girls' lacrosse play with a 24-7 win vs. Central Dauphin East. She added four goals and two assists in a 10-8 win vs. Exeter Twp.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Ben Mason, Annville-Cleona: Mason won his third straight Class AA 400 meter gold medal at the district meet in 48.98. He also helped the A-C 3,200 relay team win in a record time of 7:53.67, which was nearly 15 seconds faster than the runner-up.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: MAY 6 TO MAY 11

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Madelyn Yannetti, Gettysburg: She went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles and struck out 10 in the circle in a win vs. Big Spring. She also cracked a home run in a loss to Shippensburg.

  • Denzel Pierre, Cedar Crest: Pierre won the 100-meter dash at the L-L League meet in 10.89 and ran the anchor leg in the Falcons' 400 relay victory (43.44).

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: APRIL 29 TO MAY 4

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Nikki Garns, Greencastle-Antrim: In a meet at Trinity, Garns broke her own school record in winning the 400 (58.66), helped the Blue Devils' 3,200 relay team to first in a Cobo Field stadium record (9:49.40) and also won the javelin.

  • Adam Bahney, Elco: He won the L-L League Class AA singles title and also was part of the champion AA doubles team with teammate Galen McNaughton. Bahney went 1-1 in district singles competition.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: APRIL 22 TO APRIL 27

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Caitlinn Eigenbrode, Waynesboro: In a 3-0 week for the Maidens, Eigenbrode homered in a win against New Oxford, homered in win vs. Shippensburg and hit two homers and had four RBIs in win against Boiling Springs, giving her five home runs for the season.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Joe Vedilago, Northern Lebanon: He won his second straight Male Outstanding Athlete award at the Lebanon County Track & Field meet, winning the 200 and 400 events and taking second in the 100 dash and as a member of the Vikings' 400 relay team.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Lauren Reichard, Eastern York: The Golden Knights sophomore went 8-for-8 with a double, triple and two home runs during two games for Eastern York, a loss to Northeastern and a win against Hanover.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Freddy Seitz, Kennard-Dale: Seitz scored 13 goals for the Rams' boys' lacrosse team in wins against South Western (five goals), Red Lion (five goals) and New Oxford (three goals). He chipped in one assist vs. New Oxford. The Rams are second in Division II.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: APRIL 8 TO APRIL 13

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Katie Dembrowski, Palmyra: Dembrowski established a new Pan-Ram meet record in the 800 run by winning in 2:18.18 on Saturday. She also was the anchor for the record-setting 3,200 relay, with her split being 2:16.5. The relay team won in 9:33.20.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Keith Kegerreis, Chambersburg: In the Trojans' three wins this psat week, Kegerreis had eight kills and eight blocks vs. Central Dauphin; eight kills and 12 blocks vs. Cumberland Valley and eight kills and seven blocks vs. Northern York. Chambersburg is currently ranked third in the state in Class AAA.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: APRIL 1 TO APRIL 6

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Haley Lashinsky, Forbes Road: In two games last week on the mound, Lashinsky recorded two victories, allowing just three earned runs. She walked only one batter and struck out 13. At the plate, she has had six RBIs on four hits, including a triple and two doubles, in three games.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jake Krevetski, York Catholic: The Fighting Irish sophomore struck out 11 and walked three to record a no-hitter in a 9-0 victory against York County Tech. Only one Spartan base runner reached second base. Of the 21 outs Krevetski recorded, 11 were via strikeout, nine came from groundballs and just one came from a fly ball.

  • Darian Brenner, Annville-Cleona: Brenner was a one-person wrecking crew when she smacked two homers and a triple and knocked in eight runs in A-C's 15-5 victory at Tulpehocken.

  • Jon Witman, Eastern York: Witman netted four goals as the Golden Knights' boys' lacrosse team won their first game as a varsity program, 9-7 win against South Western.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Zaenna Echevarria, York Catholic: Echevarria scored 21 points in the Fighting Irish's victory against Dunmore in the PIAA Class AA girls' basketball second round and had six points in a victory vs. Pine Grove in the quarterfinals.

  • Khalid Nwandu, Northeastern: He scored 17 points in the Bobcats' loss to Allentown Central Catholic in the first round of the PIAA Class AAA boys' basketball championships.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Ashley Roman, Southern Fulton: The junior center scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds in a 63-30 PIAA Class A first-round win against Juniata Valley. She limited the other team's top player to 11 points and five rebounds.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Chance Marsteller, Kennard-Dale: The junior won his third consecutive PIAA Class AAA wrestling championship, earning a 17-5 major decision and improving his high school record to 125-0. He has won state titles at 152, 170 and 160 pounds.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: FEB. 25 TO MARCH 2

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • York Suburban 400 free relay team: Zowie Day, Carson Gross, Erin Merkle and Helen Gunn set a District 3 record in the relay event, winning gold with a time of 3:33.79. The victory helped the Trojans' girls' team claim the District 3 title.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Andrew Austin, Delone Catholic: He sank a putback at the buzzer to seal the District 3 Class AA boys' basketball title for the Squires. Earlier in the week, he scored 13 points in a win vs. Camp Hill.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: FEB. 18 TO FEB. 23

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Emily Wood, West York: Wood scored 20 points against Kennard-Dale in a District 3 Class AAA first-round game, then followed up that performance with 13 points in a win against Berks Catholic in the quarterfinals.

  • Trevor Stover, Biglerville: He scored three pins, two in the first minute, to win his second straight District 3 Class AA wrestling title at 285 pounds.








    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: FEB. 11 TO FEB. 16

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Carly Richardson, Palmyra: Richardson averaged 18 points in two Mid-Penn Conference playoff games, helping the Cougars win the championship and improve to 24-0 in the process. She also made five total 3-pointers in the two games.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Alex Guinn, Spring Grove: The third seed, Guinn won the 220-pound class and helped Spring Grove to its sixth straight District 3 Class AAA Section V title. Guinn was one of four Rockets to claim gold.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Shae Grim, Dallastown: Grim netted 21 points to lead the Wildcats to a 68-46 victory against Delone Catholic in the first round of the YAIAA girls' basketball tournament.

  • Ryan Kelliher, Northern Lebanon: Kelliher went 5-0 at the Lebanon County wrestling tournament with four first-period pins and one forfeit win in the 170-pound division. He almost didn't wrestle after his grandfather passed away earlier in the week.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: JAN. 28 TO FEB. 2

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Liz Myers, Eastern York: Myers netted 30 points in last week's victory against William Penn and reached 1,000 points for her career in the process. Earlier in the week, she racked up 21 points, hitting eight field goals and five foul shots in a win against Kennard-Dale.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Josh Spaulding, Lebanon: He made the game-winning shot at the buzzer last Tuesday in crucial victory against Cocalico that gave the Cedars the upper hand at an Lancaster-Lebanon League playoff spot. In the process, he also scored 15 points. Friday, Spaulding again scored the go-ahead basket with 1:27 to play in an upset of Elizabethtown, two of the 19 points he scored.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: JAN. 21 TO JAN. 26

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Niki Price, Northeastern: Price continued her record-breaking ways last week. Price set a pool and school record in 200 free and broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke in a win against New Oxford. Her time of 1:52.17 in the 200 free broke a 25-year-old league record set by Dover's Andrea Wentzel.

  • Ian Brown, Hanover: The junior earned his 100th career victory with a 6-0 decision against his Biglerville opponent. He followed that up by winning the 138-pound division at the New Oxford wrestling tournament.

  • Cheyenne Carbaugh, James Buchanan: The junior scored 48 points for the week and extended her double-double streak of points and rebounds to six games.

  • Camden Boehner, Gettysburg: She scored a career-high 33 points in Gettysburg's win against Shippensburg and added recorded 15 points in a loss at Dover and 24 points in Gettysburg's win vs. South Western to average 24 points per game for the week.

  • Sam Light, Northern Lebanon: Light averaged 27.8 points per game in four games last week, scoring 32 in a loss to unbeaten Donegal (17-of-20 from line), 17 in win against Lampeter-Strasburg, 29 in victory vs. Lebanon Catholic and 33 in win against Hamburg. He also made 9 3-pointers during the week and was 42-for-50 (84 percent) from the free-throw line.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Abby Shay, Lebanon Catholic She averaged 20 points per game last week, scoring over half of her team's points in a 22-point effort that came in a loss to powerful Lancaster Catholic on Wednesday. Then Friday, she tossed in 18 in a lopsided victory at Columbia.

  • Abby Stauffer, Chambersburg The sophomore won the 200 IM in 2:13.82 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.18 at the Bulldog Bash at Big Spring High School. She also helped the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays to first-place finishes.

  • Zach Bankus, Elco: In a three-day span, he went 10-0 in a pair of dual-meet tournaments, which included six pins and two technical falls. The Raiders went 9-1 in those matches as a team. He wrestled at 160 and 170 pounds, and he was not awarded any forfeit wins.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Macey Hollenshead, Southern Fulton: Hollenshead notched two double-doubles last week. She scored 22 points and dished out 11 assists in 54-39 win vs. Tussey Mountain, then recorded 11 points, 15 assists, six rebounds, and seven steals in a win vs. Everett.

  • Timmy Orr, Lebanon Catholic: Orr averaged 21.7 points per game over three games last week. He scored 28 points on Friday and made the winning basket and ensuing free throw for the final margin of victory in a 70-67 win vs. Lancaster Mennonite.

  • Holly Marinkov, Lebanon Catholic: Marinkov made seven 3-pointers, the last of which was the game-winning shot with seven seconds to play, and scored 23 points in the Beavers' narrow 56-54 victory against Pottsville Nativity.

  • Khalid Nwandu, Northeastern: The senior scored 78 points in three wins for the undefeated Northeastern Bobcats. Nwandu scored 25 points vs. Dallastown, 24 against Columbia and 29 vs. Spring Grove.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: DEC. 7 TO DEC. 8

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Sara Tarbert, Kennard-Dale: Tarbert started off the season with 31 points against Central York in a semifinal at the Penn Manor Tip-Off Tournament. She followed that performance with 25 points against host Penn Manor to lead the Rams to the championship.

  • Jasper Hankey, Biglerville: Wrestling at 145 pounds, Hankey posted a 5-0 record with five pins as Biglerville won the Ephrata Duals championship.

    Football Player of the Week

  • Kellen Williams, Chambersburg: Williams caught six passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-28 loss to Central York in the first round of the District 3 playoffs. On defense, he knocked down two passes, one in the end zone, and held the Panthers' leading receiver, Darian Hampton, to one catch for 11 yards.

  • Allie Mondorff, Delone Catholic: Mondorff served five aces, part of four scoring runs, and added 28 assists and 15 digs for Delone in its 3-0 sweep of previously unbeaten Holy Redeemer in the PIAA Class AA girls' volleyball quarterfinals.

  • Jake Martin, Biglerville: Martin scored twice to lead the Canners to a 4-1 victory against Greensburg Central Catholic in a PIAA Class A boys' soccer quarterfinal.

    Football Player of the Week

  • Alex Cooley, Eastern York: The senior nearly broke his own state single-game rushing record in a 81-56 victory against York County Tech. Cooley carried the ball 22 times for 492 yards and scored 10 total touchdowns (one defensive).

  • Cambria Wierman, Delone Catholic: Wierman posted 29 kills and 30 digs in two matches as Delone Catholic won the District 3 Class AA girls' volleyball championship.

  • Calvin Conrad-Kline, Palmyra: The cross country runner finished seventh in the state meet in 16:38. In districts, he was fifth in 17:02.

    Football Player of the Week

  • Darian Hampton, Central York: The senior receiver made 10 catches for 254 yards and three touchdowns as the Panthers routed Red Lion, 56-14.

  • Maria Tukis, Palmyra: The sophomore won the District Three Class AA cross country meet by five seconds in 19:59 and helped the Cougars to the AA team title.

  • Isaiah Logue, Fairfield: The junior captured the PIAA Class AA golf championship with a 36-hole total of 145 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort, becoming the Green Knights' first PIAA champion in an individual sport since 1997. The last time a YAIAA golfer won a boys' state title was 1984.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: OCT. 15 to OCT. 20

    Football Player of the Week

  • Britton Hastings, Shippensburg: The senior caught five passes for 57 yards, one of which set up Ship's first touchdown in a 14-7 win against Northern that decided first place in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division. At safety, Hastings had a tackle for a loss to help limit Northern to 207 yards. He also had five solo tackles, two assists, 1.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.

    Girls' Athlete of the Week

  • Niki Bream, Dallastown: The field hockey goalie made five saves in regulation, then stopped all five penalty strokes she faced to give the Wildcats the victory against Red Lion in the YAIAA tournament championship game.

  • Shawn Wolfe, Annville-Cleona: Wolfe won the Lancaster-Lebanon League boys' championship race (no classifications, everyone lumped together) four days after being cleared to run after being hospitalized for fainting spells.

    Football Player of the Week

  • Cameron Strause, Elco: Strause ran for 218 yards on 33 carries and scored three of his team's four touchdowns in a 28-13 come-from-behind win against Northern Lebanon.

  • Lauren Gough, South Western: Gough scored six goals in three matches for the Mustangs. She netted a hat trick against New Oxford and scored one of her team's goals in a win vs. West York in the YAIAA girls' soccer quarterfinals.

  • Jesse Swope, McConnellsburg: The senior center midfielder scored seven goals and had an assist as his team went 3-0 for the week. In all three games, he gave his team the lead for good.

    Football Player of the Week

  • Jamal Pickett, Chambersburg: In a 30-28 loss to State College, Pickett ran 20 times for 169 yards, caught four passes for 111 yards and scored four touchdowns. His 97-yard catch and run gave Chambersburg a 28-24 lead with 41 seconds left.

  • Jen Rusling, Palmyra: Rusling had an 45-assist game as the Cougars knocked off first-place Trinity on Tuesday. Two days later, she had 10 aces and 19 assists in win against Steel-High.

  • Isaiah Logue, Fairfield : Logue captured the District 3 Class AA golf championship with a 3-under 141 at Briarwood Golf Club.

    ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: SEPT. 24 TO SEPT. 29

    Football Player of the Week

  • Alex Cooley, Eastern York: The senior rushed for 500 yards and eight touchdowns on 26 carries in the Golden Knights' 62-37 victory against Hanover, setting a new District 3 single-game record. He also passed former Littlestown standout Jeremiah Collins as the YAIAA's all-time leading rusher. Cooley came into the game needing 374 yards to match Collins and has now run for 4,559 yards during his career.

  • Syd Godbey, Mercersburg Academy: The junior goalkeeper had one shutout last week and made 22 saves in another game. She has 60 saves in seven games so far this season for the Blue Storms' field hockey squad.

  • Tyler Shank, Palmyra: The golfer earned his first trip to districts with a 1-over 73 at the Mid-Penn Conference Championship at The Links of Gettysburg last Monday, where he finished second after losing in a playoff for first place.

  • Mitch Rodkey, Annville-Cleona: Rodkey ran for 278 yards and accounted for six scores (five rushing, one throwing) in a 42-14 victory against Northern Lebanon.

  • Hannah Wyrick, Shippensburg: The sophomore field hockey player scored game-winning goals, both in overtime of 1-0 wins against Greencastle-Antrim and Red Land, on back-to-back days.

  • Christopher Diaz, York Suburban: Diaz helped the Trojans clinch the YAIAA Division II title, winning Sept. 19's meet in 17:18.7 at John Rudy Park.

    Football Player of the Week

  • Alec Miller, Northeastern: The senior quarterback had a part in four touchdowns as the Bobcats defeated Shippensburg, 32-27, to improve to 3-0. Miller threw three passing touchdowns and scored one rushing touchdown. He totaled 197 passing yards.

  • Katie Miller, Mercersburg Academy: The sophomore forward helped the Blue Storm's girls' soccer team to a 2-0 week, scoring four goals and adding two assists in a 7-0 win vs. McConnellsburg and adding a goal in a 3-0 win against Hedgesville, W.Va. Mercersburg is now 4-0.

    Football Player of the Week

  • Jaime Nixon-Alark, York Suburban: The running back rushed for 101 yards during the Trojans 28-20 win against Eastern York on Friday. He scored on a 95-yard punt return and a 45-yard interception return.

  • Maddie Shaak, Elco: Shaak captured her third straight Lebanon County girls' tennis singles title on Saturday during the annual county tournament at Cedar Crest. Shaak did not drop a single game in two matches en route to three-peating as county champion.

  • Shawn Wolfe, Annville-Cleona: Wolfe, a senior, took first place and led the Little Dutchmen to the team title at the LVC Invitational on Saturday. Wolfe covered the 3.1-mile course in a sizzling 16:25.46.

    Football Player of the Week

  • James Dougherty, York Catholic: The senior signal-caller completed 20-of-30 passes for 384 yards and three touchdowns in the Fighting Irish's 33-28 loss to Northeastern. He threw touchdown strikes of 77 yards, 50 yards and 5 yards.

  • Sylvia Sentz, Gettysburg: Sentz scored two goals in Gettysburg's 3-0 field hockey shutout of Delone Catholic in the Gettysburg Invitational championship game. Both goals came within the first 15 minutes.

    Boys' Athlete of the Week

  • Jordan Lichty, James Buchanan: In Big Spring's Bulldog Classic, Lichty scored both goals in a 2-1 victory against Northern York, including the game-winner in overtime with 20 seconds left in the first OT period. He also scored the first goal against Northern, and added a third goal in the championship game, a 3-2 loss to Big Spring.
