High school athletes around the YAIAA got their first taste of practice Monday, the opening day of fall sports throughout York and Adams counties.
Area fields and courts found new life as throngs of seasoned vets and fresh-faced newbies started preparation for the 2012 season.
Here's a quick glance at some fall storylines to watch this season:
The state will finally crown true girls' soccer champions this year, as the YAIAA moved the sport from the spring to the fall. The quick turnaround could help, or hurt, area teams.
Dover girls' volleyball only has two starters back from a team that won the YAIAA tournament title, finished second in districts and reached pool play at states. The road to success could be challenging for the Eagles.
Keep an eye on Division III in football this season. Any number of teams can be considered title contenders.
Dallastown's golf team won the Division I title for the second time in three years last season. It will be a tall task to knock the Wildcats from the top of the standings.
Red Lion's boys' and girls' cross country squads were undefeated in Division I, and both look to be dangerous again with a number of returning runners.
