PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Casey Ayers, Biglerville, Sr., 2B: Biglerville coach Jeff Taylor described Ayers' hitting philosophy in simple terms. "If it's the zone, he's hacking at it," Taylor said.
That aggressive approach worked well for Ayers, who smacked an astounding 46 hits in 20 games. Ayers finished the season with a .561 batting average, a .621 on-base percentage and a .756 slugging percentage. He ripped 12 extra-base hits -- including a home run -- and drove in 33 RBIs.
ALL-STARS
Austin Buckley, Delone Catholic, Jr., P: The left-hander was solid all season for the Squires. He went 4-3 with a 2.13 ERA and struck out 51 hitters in 42 innings.
Logan Howell, Biglerville, Sr., C: Howell nearly matched his teammate Ayers in the on-base department, producing a .492 batting average and a .617 on-base percentage. Howell also bashed a pair of home runs and drove in 24 RBIs.
Tyler Kime, Delone Catholic, Sr., 1B: Kime was one of the Squires' primary power sources. He cracked four home runs, four doubles and drove in 32 RBIs while hitting .377 on the season.
Brandon Etzler, Hanover, Jr., 2B: Etzler led a still-growing Nighthawks squad at the plate. He scored three runs in a season-opening win against Milton Hershey and had three hits in a late-season loss to York County Tech.
Brett Smith, Delone Catholic, Jr., SS: At the plate, Smith posted a .477 average, 15 extra-base hits (including two home runs) and scored 30 runs. As a pitcher, Smith finished the season with a 4-0 record and an ERA under 1.
Sam Stephan, Delone Catholic, Jr., 3B: Stephan posted a rock-solid .427 average with 31 hits. He also drove in 19 runs on the season, three of them during a 4-1 win against York County Tech on May 1.
Brady Griest, Biglerville, Sr., OF: Griest was a table-setter in the Canners' lineup, reaching base at a .560 clip, stealing 10 bags and scoring 30 runs. He also managed a .415 batting average.
Seth Bullers, Delone Catholic, Sr., OF: Bullers batted .422 with 21 runs scored this spring. During his two varsity campaigns, Bullers was a combined .465 hitter.
Clint Bohn, York Catholic, So., OF: Bohn led the Irish offense in batting average (.393), RBIs (18) and doubles (4). He also tied for the team lead in steals with seven.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Rob Alkhas, York County Tech: After winning a combined seven games during their previous five seasons, the Spartans rebounded with a 10-10 campaign (7-8 in division play) during 2012. York County Tech finished third in the division and polished off its season with a 2-1 win against Biglerville -- the division's second-place team -- on May 8.
