The Daily Record/Sunday News presents the 2012 YAIAA Division II Softball All-Stars:
CO-PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
Erika Heck, Spring Grove, Sr., P: An all-star last season, Heck surpassed the coveted 500 career strikeout plateau this season, when she fanned 149 batters in 116 innings.
The senior also had a tiny 1.87 earned-run average, and her right arm helped the Rockets to 14 overall victories and a three-peat in Division II.
Desi Joines, Kennard-Dale, Sr., P: The Shepherd University-bound senior also crossed the 500 career strikeout mark this season and later topped 600 after finishing the season with 213 K's.
Known for her great control, Joines finished with a 1.93 ERA, plus batted .367 with 23 hits and 17 runs scored.
Amy Bentley, Spring Grove, Jr., 2B: One of the division-champion Rockets table-setters, Bentley scored 15 runs and had 21 hits for a .344 average.
Lynsey Billet, Northeastern, Sr., C: A repeat all-star, Billet finished her Bobcat career by hitting .345 with 19 hits -- 10 for extra bases -- to go along with 12 runs scored and 11 batted in.
Julia D'Arrigo, Kennard-Dale, So., 3B: She pounded out 28 hits, while scoring 18 runs and hitting .430 to lead the Rams. She had 10 extra base hits, including five doubles and four triples.
Rachael DeLawder, Kennard-Dale, Sr., 2B: A second-team all-star in 2011, the senior and multiyear starter knocked 22 hits, including a double and two triples, while hitting .343 and scoring 12 runs this season, plus was effective with the glove at second for the Rams.
Katie Diehl, Dover, Sr., SS: The senior slugger topped the division in several categories, including average (.485), hits (32) and RBIs (23), plus had five doubles, five triples and four home runs while producing much of the Eagles' offense.
Sara Driggers, Kennard-Dale, So., C: A good hitter, as her .366 average, 10 RBIs and two home runs would suggest, but the two-time all-star sophomore backstop also gets a lot of deserved recognition for her stellar work behind the plate.
Rebecca Heltzel, West York, Sr.: While her .388 average and 19 hits with 14 runs scored were impressive, Heltzel drove in 15 runs and scampered around the bases for six triples and three homers.
Jena Hull, Spring Grove, Sr., 1B: A multitime all-star, Hull led the Division II-champion Rockets with a .414 average, scored 17 runs and drove in 14. She was one of the league's best first basemen.
Hayley Norton, Spring Grove, Fr., OF: The freshman burst onto the scene as a major run producer for the Rockets. She scored 21 times, drove in 20 runs and topped the division with seven home runs. She also hit .403.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Mark Hull, Spring Grove: This is familiar territory for Hull, who led the Rockets to their third straight Division II championship after posting a 10-2 league mark and a 14-8 overall record.
Dover: Bri Crossan, Alexis Gohn, Alexis Shoemaker; Kennard-Dale: Rhiannon McGlone, Teanna Webb; Northeastern: Emily Boogher, Sam Gordineer, Missy Reeder; Spring Grove: Morgan Bankert, Nikki Filbey, Brittany Orwig, Terynn Weaver; West York: Keara Hepler.
