BRYN MAWR - Mercersburg Academy broke a scoreless tie with a four-run fifth inning on Saturday to win the PAISAA softball championship over Agnes Irwin at Rosemost College.

Sydney Reath (Chambersburg) dominated in the circle and at the plate, pitching a one-hit shutout for the Blue Storm (15-8). She also was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Reath singled in the fifth. The big hit in that inning for the Mercersburg was by Val Langlois, a two-run single.

Other hitting stars for the Blue Storm were Meg Peterson and Paige Richardson, both going 2-for-4.

Agnes Irwin, located in Bryn Mawr, competes in a Philadelphia area league.

Mercersburg Academy coach John David Bennett said, "It is Mercersburg's first state championship, so it was a big day for us. The girls had their best day all season on the right day to have it. Agnes Irwin had just won their fifth straight conference championship."
