But, thanks to the deluge of rain this week, the football game will be played on the turf at Trojan Stadium, starting at 7 p.m., instead of in the mud of Indian Stadium at 7:30.
The weather also created another casualty -- Shippensburg's home game Friday against Kennard-Dale has been postponed until Monday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Park.
Waynesboro initiated the conversation Thursday morning when athletic director Dan McLaughlin called CASHS AD Don Folmar.
Folmar said, "Dan said their field was not playable today and wouldn't be Friday, and probably not Saturday. He said even if we moved it to Monday, if we played we might still ruin the field. So he asked if we could host the game."
McLaughlin said, "We've had four or five days of rain and we would destroy the field. The gate receipts would never be enough to cover the cost of repairing that."
Indian football coach Scott Shacreaw said, "Our field is already not in good condition. And with the weather we haven't been able to get on it and mow or put down lines."
Shacreaw did not want to play Monday, either.
"I just want to play Friday, regardless," he said. "If you play Monday it really messes up your schedule for the next week."
Waynesboro is away next week, so its first real home game will be Sept. 23 against Northern.
However, the Indians will be considered as the home team tonight.
They will wear their black home jerseys and their band will play the pregame show, giving Chambersburg the halftime portion. The Trojans will still be the home team on the scoreboard.
In addition, no Chambersburg passes will be honored for the game (gold passes, faculty passes or student activity passes).
Waynesboro will pay the officials and the game personnel, and will keep the gate receipts.
"I can't commend the Chambersburg people enough," McLaughlin said. "Don and his staff pulled this together in a matter of hours."
Folmar said, "I think it's a win-win. We get to play at home instead of away, we get to keep the concessions and we don't have to worry about transportation. Waynesboro gets to play the game on time, gets to keep the gate -- which might be pretty good depending on the weather -- and doesn't mess up their field."
This is just the latest in a wild first full week of the high school sports season.
Already this week, nearly 40 athletic events have been affected by the weather.
Folmar said, "It's just the first week and we're already dealing with postponements of games that were postponed earlier."
You know it's bad when volleyball matches are getting postponed, but it's happened four times this week.
