WAYNESBORO -- Chambersburg got off to a very hot start and rolled to a 73-38 non-league boys basketball victory over Waynesboro on Monday night, securing the Trojans a spot in the District 3 playoffs.

The Trojans (10-7) had six players score in a hot first quarter that saw them ahead 24-2 after eight minutes. Tyler Young scored six of his 13 points in the period and Skyler Roman and Gabe Carson-Rivera each chipped in five points.

"I thought for the first time in a real long time we executed extremely well on offense," said Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler, whose team finished shooting 54.2 percent from the floor. "We did a nice job moving the ball and we were extremely focused on what we have to do to be successful."

Chambersburg knocked in 11 of 21 3-pointers, including five in the fourth quarter. Roman hit four long balls (on five attempts) and led a balanced Trojan attack with 14 points. Kayone Teal (12) and Carson-Rivera (10) also cracked double figures and Jordan Riley scored nine points, all on threes.

Teal added seven rebounds and five assists and Young stole five balls.

"Our balance on offense was really good. Tonight our offense clicked very well," Shreffler said. "We still have to do a better job with defensive transition and rebounding, but in the first quarter I thought our boxing out was awesome and we were able to score some easy buckets off that."

The Indians (1-18) got eight points from Derek Null.
