WILLOW HILL -- It was an early-season matchup that felt like a playoff game.

In the ultra-competitive boys Sideling Hill League, Fannett-Metal fired the first salvo on Tuesday night, getting monster nights from seniors Colton Bair, Justin Bannister and Ryan Dovey in a 70-60 victory over Tussey Mountain at Fannett-Metal High School gym.

The Titans won the SHL crown a year ago, twice beating the Tigers in the regular season.

"First of all, it was a packed house and there wasn't a seat to be found," F-M coach Greg Best said. "It was a playoff-type atmosphere for the beginning of the season. This was a nice Christmas gift for Fannett-Metal."

Fannett-Metal (4-0, 2-0 SHL) dropped in a season-high nine 3-pointers led by Bair, who stroked five threes and finished with a season-high 21 points.

It was Dovey that got the Tigers started, as he scored 13 of his 15 points before halftime, helping Fannett-Metal to a 40-26 lead by intermission.

Bannister was tough inside as well, chipping in 15 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocks, as Fannett-Metal shot better than 50 percent from the field.

"We played with a lot of intensity and emotion throughout the game," Best said. "The seniors were looking forward to this game and they left it all on the court. The kids played hard for four quarters."

The Titans had just three players score, led by Randy Zimmerman's 29-point effort. The difference in the game may have been the Tigers' Taylor Hockenberry, who contributed a season-high 10 points after scoring 12 the first three games.

"Taylor stepped up and made some crucial shots tonight," Best said.
