The York Daily Record/Sunday News has announced its 2009 Div. IV softball all-stars

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Kristyan Gates, Hanover: After waiting three years for her turn to take over Hawkette pitching duties, the senior ended up setting a Hanover single-season record with 200 strikeouts.

Gates struck out 16 Eastern batters in Hanover's division-clinching 2-0 victory and walked just 14 all season in which she posted a 12-6 record.

She could hit the ball, too, as indicated by her .452 batting average. The lead-off batter had 33 hits and 26 runs scored.

ALL-STARS
Terra Diehl, Hanover: She notched 21 hits, including two triples and a home run this season while playing mainly shortstop. The sophomore also had two starts on mound and went 2-0.
Mollie Durkin, York Catholic: The senior pitched every game and recorded a respectable 2.75 earned-run average for the team which lost seven games by one run. She also hit .350 this season.
Marie Giuffrida, York Catholic: The junior made just one error all season at first base and led the Irish in extra-base hits and posted a .550 slugging percentage.
Olivia Hallinan, Delone Catholic: The senior had four hits in a division win over Biglerville. She excelled in her first season of softball, hitting .350 with two home runs and three triples, 16 runs scored and 12 RBIs.
Adrian McLane, York County Tech: The junior hit .434 with two doubles and five triples and drove in 18 runs. She earned five wins on the mound for the Spartans, who finished second in the division -- the best finish in school history.
Sarah Myers, Fairfield: The speedy lefty led the Green Knights in hitting with a .429 average, scored 24 runs and was 8-for-8 in steal attempts. She made just one error while playing all 92 innings as a sophomore.
Meranda Poole, York County Tech: Led the team with her .449 batting average. The junior added four doubles, two triples and 12 RBIs.
Selena Roberson, York County Tech: The junior outfielder was a solid contributor for the much-improved Spartans, hitting .383 with two doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs.
Michelle Weigle, Biglerville: The junior committed just five errors at the challenging third base position. She was second on the Canners with a .357 batting average and was 12-for-12 in stolen bases.
Brooke Yingling, Hanover: Because of an injury, the sophomore moved behind plate at the midway part of the season and did a fantastic job. The clean-up hitter posted a .353 average with 23 hits and nearly 20 runs batted in.

Second team: Courtney Wilson, Rosie Hall, York Catholic; Katie Coyne, Amanda Swaggerty, Delone Catholic; Bowmaster, Biglerville; Erika Summers, Emma Preisinger, York County Tech; Dana Raub, Noel Wheeler, Hanover; Kelsey Diehl, Taylor Keller, Fairfield.
Honorable mention: Jules Ruiz, York Catholic; Kelsey Klinedinst, Madison Hoff, Marlee Hansford, Hanover; Ashleigh Hicks, Emily Saare, York County Tech.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Terry Wallace, York County Tech: It's not often a coach wins this honor with a 7-5 league record, but considering the Spartans' second-place finish was the best in school history and York Tech placed three girls on the all-star team, the award is quite deserving.
