PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Parker Showers, RB, Biglerville: Described as a "horse" on the field by coach Tim Hibbs, Showers carried the load for the Canners on offense all season. Showers rushed for 1,480 yards and 24 touchdowns on 243 carries to help Biglerville win its first division title in 37 years. The Canners finished 5-1 in Division III to share the crown with Bermudian Springs and Delone Catholic.
Showers also caught nine passes for 56 yards, but it was his hard work on the ground that powered the Biglerville offense. He ran for more than 100 yards in all but two of his team's 11 games this season and rushed for 180 yards and three touchdowns in his team's pivotal victory over Bermudian Springs in Week 7. In Biglerville's division title clinching victory over York County Tech in Week 9, Showers rushed for 174 yards and another three touchdowns.
ALL-STARS
First-team offense
Jarred Picarelli, QB, Biglerville: While Showers was picking up all of his yards on the ground, Picarelli was excelling through the air to make sure opposing defenses couldn't just focus on the rushing attack. The senior finished 71-of-145 for 1,018 yards, throwing 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He threw for more at least 100 yards in five of his final seven games.
Dusty Reed, RB, Delone Catholic: In a multiple-back system for the Squires, Reed was the most efficient ballcarrier. The junior averaged 9.82 yards per carry, totaling 1,120 yards on only 114 attempts and scored a team-high 12 rushing touchdowns. Reed also caught 14 passes for 237 yards and five touchdowns.
Derek Mummert, RB, Bermudian Springs: Improving as the season wore on, the senior cracked quadruple-digits on the ground for the Eagles, finishing with 1,023 yards and 10 touchdowns on 168 carries. In a pivotal victory over Delone Catholic, Mummert rushed for a season-high 189 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.
Preston Green, RB, Bermudian Springs: The senior running back rushed for 773 yards in the season's first nine games before his action was limited due to injury. Helping the Eagles earn a spot in the District 3 Class AA tournament, Green scored nine touchdowns on the ground and rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries against Division III co-champion Biglerville.
Mike Wagner, WR, Biglerville: Picarelli's most frequent target, the senior caught 34 balls for 496 yards and eight touchdowns. During a pivotal four-game stretch that included games against York Catholic and Bermudian Springs, Wagner found the end zone in each contest.
Gary Laucks, WR, York Catholic: The only sophomore to receive first-team honors in Division III, Laucks was the most dependable receiver for the Fighting Irish this season, catching 32 passes for 535 yards and eight touchdowns to account for 80 percent of York Catholic's scoring through the air.
Al Neiderer, TE, Delone Catholic: The leading receiver for the Squires, Neiderer caught 15 balls for 255 yards and five touchdowns. The senior came through with a big performance in the season-opener to help jump-start Delone's season, catching three passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyler Coyle, C, Bermudian Springs: The 5-foot-7, 215-pound junior excelled in his blocking duties for the Eagles, helping protect quarterback Jordan Selfe as he threw for 1,189 yards to average more than 100 yards through the air per game.
Brandon March, OG, York Catholic: The biggest member of the Fighting Irish offensive line took advantage of his 6-foot-2, 260-oound frame during his senior season, helping the York Catholic rushing attack gain 1,480 yards on 346 carries.
Allex Hartzel, OG, Bermudian Springs: Without the traditional bulk of a lineman at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, the senior was still a major force in the trenches for the Eagles. He helped the Bermudian rushing attack gain 2,750 yards on 478 attempts for a team per-carry average of 5.75 yards.
Brett Smyers, OT, Biglerville: The senior utilized his size up front all season for the Canners. The 6-foot-1, 256-pound Smyers helped pave the way for Showers and the rest of the Biglerville rushing attack, which tallied 1,947 yards this season.
Jason Brady, OT, Delone Catholic: The senior captain led the Squires on and off the field as they advanced further in the playoffs than any other Division III squad. At 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, Brady did not mess around on the gridiron, helping pave the way for Delone rushers that finished the season with 3,057 yards on 482 carries.
Sean Obermeier, P, York Catholic: The senior did plenty with his foot for the Fighting Irish, averaging more than 36 yards per punt to help a York Catholic offense that had some dry spells this season and needed the special teams help.
First-team defense
Jason Brady, DT, Delone Catholic: Playing both ways didn't seem to wear out the hefty and heady senior, who earned first-team honors on both sides of the ball. On defense, he registered 85 tackles, including three sacks, and also recovered a fumble.
Cameron Kurtz, DT, York Catholic: The senior did more than fill up holes at the line of scrimmage to keep opposing ballcarriers from gaining yards. No York Catholic player was more effective at bringing down opposing quarterbacks, as Kurtz registered five sacks for the Fighting Irish.
Tyler Stonesifer, DT, York County Tech: The senior controlled the middle for the Spartans and was called "a complete anchor on defense" by the York County Tech coaching staff.
Dan Sneeringer, DE, Delone Catholic: His 53 tackles tell a lot about his contribution to the Delone defense, but the story would not be complete without mentioning his fumble recoveries. The senior picked up loose balls on defense a team-high four times for the Squires.
Mike Wagner, DE, Biglerville: The senior could penetrate the opposing team's offensive line and chase down the quarterback better than any other Biglerville defender, registering a team-high seven sacks for the Canners. He also registered 46 tackles.
Dan Thomas, DE, Biglerville: Posting very similar numbers to Wagner, the junior was another major force on the defensive line for the Canners. Thomas finished the season with 47 tackles and six sacks.
Mitch Kaehler, ILB, Delone Catholic: The junior truly had a breakout year this season, becoming one of the few area players to break triple-digits in tackles. Kaehler finished the season with 103 takedowns during Delone Catholic's 12 games and also recovered two fumbles on defense for the Squires.
Jason Cline, ILB, Bermudian Springs: The team leader in tackles, the junior established a reputation for getting to the ball quickly. In addition to his 76 tackles, Cline also recovered two fumbles for the Eagles.
Adam Stroup, OLB, Bermudian Springs: Strapping up for all 11 games this season, the senior was a major force for the Eagles on defense and helped Bermudian allow seven points or less six times. Stroup finished with 62 tackles.
Nic Lieberum, OLB, Biglerville: The senior knew his way around the football field and had no trouble bringing down an opposing ballcarrier on his own. Of Lieberum's 29 tackles, 25 were solo efforts.
Dusty Reed, DB, Delone Catholic: He wasn't the most prolific tackler, finishing his junior season with 25 takedowns, but utilized his speed and sure hands in the secondary for the Squires. Reed tied for the team-high with two interceptions, returning them for a total of 63 yards.
Derek Mummert, DB, Bermudian Springs: Only two tackles away from tying for the team lead, Mummert could take down ballcarriers as well as he could defend receivers this year. He registered 74 tackles and also nabbed three interceptions during his senior season.
Jay Goldstein, DB, York Catholic: The senior is only 5-foot-8, but he was still effective shutting down opposing receivers and ballcarriers for the Fighting Irish, helping the York Catholic defense register three shutouts this season.
Jake Stimer, DB, Bermudian Springs: If his 38 tackles don't impress you, the senior's nine interceptions should do the trick. Averaging close to one pick per game, Stimer was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks and helped the Eagles return to the playoffs in 2008.
Sean Obermeier, K, York Catholic: He can run it, catch it, punt it and can do pretty well on field goals and kickoffs too. The senior had a particularly strong effort against York County Tech when, in addition to returning a fumble for a touchdown and rushing for nearly 100 yards, he opened the game's scoring with a 36-yard field goal.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Tim Hibbs, Biglerville: Going into this season the Canners didn't exactly have a proud football history. Hibbs estimated that Biglerville had only six or seven winning seasons in the 37 years since the team last won a division title. The coach called it "tradition that needs to be broken." After a 7-3 regular season, a shared Division III title and a District 3 Class AA tournament berth, the Canners seems to be well on their way to breaking that tradition under Hibbs' leadership. This season marked the second consecutive year in which Hibbs coached the Canners to a winning record, improving his career mark at the school to 24-27 since 2004.
