Great Valley handed Unionville its first Ches-Mont League boys tennis loss in four years with a 4-3 decision on Tuesday.

The Patriots (4-0 league) remained tied for first place in the American Division with West Chester Rustin. Unionville fell to 3-1 in the league and 4-2 overall.

Adarsh Nair and Chris Shannon posted hard-fought wins at second and third singles respectively for Great Valley.

Peter Slaats and Miquel Munoz looked solid at first doubles with a 6-3, 6-1 win.

Johnny Wu won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles for Unionville, and the third doubles team of Champe Fisher and Zach Horowitz rallied for a three-set win.

Downingtown East (4-1 league), which suffered its first league loss, led 3-2 after five matches.

Rustin tied it when Kyle Bradley and Phil Clark prevailed in three sets at fourth doubles. Ben Newman posted the clincher with a three-set win at third singles.

Andrew Ciciriello and Cory Bradshaw played a strong match at first doubles for Downingtown East.

With two outs and runners on second and third, a hard-hit ground ball went off the third baseman and the runner scored before he made the out at third.

Sean Esche outdueled Brian Brown for the win. Esche pitched seven innings of two-hit ball with seven strikeouts and no walks. Brown pitched six innings and allowed one hit with one walk and 12 strikeouts.

Bobby Stewart had both hits for the Red Raiders (1-2).

In the bottom half, Balint's RBI single tied the game, and Taylor Volko's single drove in the winning run.
