BUCKTOWN - Phoenixville's baseball team saw an early lead slip away as the Phantoms dropped their first Pioneer Athletic Conference game of the season to host Owen J. Roberts, 5-4, on March 31.

Phoenixville held a 4-2 lead after four innings, but the Wildcats rallied with one run in the fifth inning and then two in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.

Phoenixville had big offensive outings in its first two wins against Perkiomen Valley (11-1) and Pottstown (14-2), but the Phantoms managed just three hits against Owen J. Roberts hurlers Kutter Endy and left-hander Sam Murphy.

Logan Landis slammed a solo home run over the right field fence to lead off the third inning for the Phantoms. Landis scored two runs while Cam Cook and Brett Arney scored the other runs for the visitors.

Cook and Cole Luzins (RBI) had the other hits for the Phantoms.

Landis also served as an emergency starting pitcher for the Phantoms due to an injury to Cole Luzins. Landis pitched three frames and yielded one hit and two earned runs with four strikeouts and four walks on 63 pitches.

Brett Thomas pitched the middle three-plus innings and Bryan Furr came in from right field to complete the contest.

"We didn't take advantage of more opportunities to add on to the lead,' said Phoenixville coach Jack Sturgeon. "Whenever you do that, you are going to have teams coming back to win games. There is no team in this league you can give runs to. We didn't get the big hit when we needed to with the bases loaded.'

The Phantoms stranded nine baserunners and left the bases jammed in the fourth inning. OJR left 10 men on base.

"Logan did a good job as an emergency starter, and Brett came in and did a good job in his first extended time out there,' said Sturgeon. "Logan also hit the ball well.'

David Clay knocked in three of OJR's runs with two sacrifice fly RBIs and a first-inning infield hit, which was one of five OJR hits.

In the decisive bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats (2-1, 3-1) used leadoff singles by Riley McGinley and Noah Beebe, an error, wild pitch and a fielder's choice to win the game. There were also two intentional walks issued during the frame. Blake McCourt and McGinley each scored a pair of runs. Colin McCourt ripped a two-out double in the sixth inning for coach Greg Gilbert's crew.

The Phantoms scored in every inning except two in beating Pottstown, 14-2, on March 27 in a full game at Bobby Shantz Field.

Southpaw Bryan Furr and Brett Thomas combined on a one-hitter for the Phantoms while Phoenixville delivered 12 hits offensively against four Pottstown pitchers.

Zach Gallow finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored for the Phantoms. Logan Landis (double) and designated hitter Tom Kawchak each had two hits, and Cole Luzins also doubled. Landis, Luzins and Brett Arney each drove in two runs. James Jackson stole three bases.

Dakota Robinson singled to center field with two outs in the fifth inning for Pottstown's lone hit.

Furr pitched five innings, allowing one hit and two runs, before giving way to Thomas. Furr had two strikeouts and three walks while Thomas had two strikeouts and three walks.
