Qualifying representatives of the Conestoga Pioneer's Boys Swim team participated in the PIAA District 1 AAA Swimming Championship last week, earning a 12th place finish against a strong field of 43 teams, qualifying for the State Championship in multiple events.
Alex Schon had the race of the meet for the Stoga boys, placing 4th in the 100 Butterfly in a time of 50.82 seconds, getting an automatic spot in the State Championship, and breaking the school record set by Chris Craft in 1984!
The Pioneer quartet of Raju Kolluru, Michael Ashmead, Alex Schon, and Brian McKenrick placed 9th in the 200 Medley Relay and dropped almost 3 seconds in the 400 Freestyle Relay to place 6th, making a time cut for the State meet in both events.
Swimming together for their first District 1 Championship meet, the 200 Freestyle relay team of Bohan Song, Chris Wang, Alan Shen, and Kevin Jay placed 23rd.
The 200IM was well covered for the Pioneers, with Jay in 38th, Wang touching 32nd, McKenrick finishing 24th, and Alex Schon getting a State seed with 7th place. Michael Ashmead place 12th in the 50 Freestyle.
Four Stoga swimmers were also in the 100 Butterfy. In addition to Schon's 4th place finish, Kolluru swam to 13th, Chase Ciotti placed 19th, and Wang touched 41st.
Ashmead earned a State cut in the 100 Freestyle placing 10th, and in the 500 Freestyle Lucas Fanucci swam to 34th while McKenrick had a strong final kick to finish 23rd. Kolluru place 25th in the 100 Backstroke, followed by Jay finishing 41st in the 100 breaststroke.
