OXFORD -- With nine rematches of Ches-Mont League Finals on the docket, there was revenge in the air, Saturday night.

Though many tried to reverse their fate from a week ago, only Coatesville's Wesley McGuire (195 pounds) and Great Valley's Dean Lang (285) were able to do so in the Class AAA District 1 Central tournament at Oxford.

West Chester Henderson's Brad Patton (138) bounced back from a third-place finish at Ches-Monts to claim a district title, as the top three from each weight class advanced to the Southeast Regional tournament at Pottstown next Friday and Saturday.

Downingtown East won the team title with 71 more points than runner-up Coatesville, thanks to nine finalists and four champs -- Jude McDowell (113), Wade Cummings (120), Jared Leonetti (126) and Chris Jarani (160).

Avon Grove's Caleb Edwards (182) won his 100th career bout in quarterfinals and rolled his way to his first district title against Jason Gibson of the Cougars, while East's Adam Pleines (195) won No. 100 in quarters, as well. Pleines fell victim to McGuire in the finals for his first loss in 40 matches this season. McGuire got up 9-0 early and staved Pleines off, 9-5.

"He's a good wrestler and I knew I had to go in and keep the mistakes minimal,' McGuire said. "I had to catch him on any mistakes he made and I got a little gassed at the end but I held on.'

Mike Boykin (220) made it back-to-back titles for Coatesville with a technical fall against Downingtown East's Billy McGinley in the third period.

Lang kept to his disciplined strategy all day, knocking off the district's No. 3 heavyweight, Norristown's Shaheed Hill, in the semifinals and No. 4 Sean Snodgrass of Downingtown East, 3-2 in ultimate tiebreaker, in the finals.

"The last four times I've wrestled Snodgrass it hasn't turned out very well,' said Lang, who was pinned by Snodgrass in the finals a week before. "It feels great.'

Lang's teammate, Shane Ruhnke (145), faced Unionville's Mike Caldwell in the finals for the second straight week and ended it early this time, pinning him with 10 seconds left in the first period.

Patton maneuvered a defensive pin against Sun Valley's Ches-Mont champ, Alex Elliott, in the semis and then had his way with Downingtown East's Austin Lillis with a third-period technical fall in the finals. Patton's first postseason title has him dreaming of becoming the next state qualifier in his family.

"My uncle Jimmy (Patton) placed fifth at states and my cousin Jimmy (Long, of Henderson) took sixth a couple years ago,' Patton said. "I come from a wrestling family, so it would mean a lot to me to be the next wrestler in the family to be talked about for awhile.'

Jarani continues to impress this postseason, taking it to Upper Moreland's Dom DeLaurentis, 8-2, in the finals. His three teammate champs won rematches. Cummings managed a 6-1 decision against Henderson's Kyle Medrow, Leonetti took Coatesville's Chase Stephens down in overtime for a 4-2 victory and McDowell used a late takedown against West Chester East's Noah Hankin to win, 3-1.

"I'm pretty happy with the way I've been performing,' said McDowell, who dropped from 120 for the postseason. "It's tough dropping to (113) but the payoff at the end is pretty big.'

Downingtown West's Gabe Hale (170) saw one of the Suburban One League American Division's toughest kids, Norristown's Rashon Lusane, in the finals. Hale used a pair of takedowns and a reverse to beat the returning state qualifier, 8-5.

"I knew it was gonna be a close match,' Hale said. "I had my coaches and a lot of people rooting me on and I knew I could get it done.'

Hale's teammate Tristan Reynolds (132) had himself a day, as well, knocking off American Division champ Gianpiero DiBattista of Plymouth Whitemarsh, 2-0 in overtime in the quarters, and Henderson's Josh Nichter, 9-7 in overtime in the semis. His run ended in the finals when Upper Dublin's Colin Devlin edged him, 7-5, once again in overtime.

Avon Grove's Edgar Garcia (106) won his second straight district title with a third-period pin against Downingtown West's Troy Smith.

West Chester Rustin's Brett Kaliner (106) and Thomas Hatzipavlides (145), Octorara's Rico Camacho (113), Henderson's Joey Wilson (126), Downingtown West's Manoa Taniguchi (152), Coatesville's Zach Dellicompagni (160), West Chester East's Rob Ritrovato (195) and Kennett's Cory Tomasetti (285) moved on with third-place finishes.

The Ches-Mont totalled 33 of the 42 regional qualifiers, Saturday. The top three finishers at regionals advance to the PIAA tournament in Hershey the following week. Norristown's Mike Springer (152) was named Outstanding Wrestler after breaking his school's record for career pins with his 111th and 112th.
