PLYMOUTH MEETING -- Troy Gallen had plenty of memories in his four years playing for Malvern Prep, but his biggest one occurred Friday night at Colonial Stadium.

A win over rival St. Joseph's Prep in his final game for the Friars.

Gallen ended his career with a bang as he finished with 33 carries for 260 yards, three catches for 90 yards and scored all three touchdowns as the Friars defeated the Hawks 24-20 at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.

"That's all I wanted to end the season with was a win over St. Joe's Prep,' Gallen said. "The game plan was to come out and dominate. We got it done.'

Gallen hasn't shied away from dominating opponents all season and the same remained true against the St. Joe's defense.

On Malvern Prep's second series, Gallen capped a nine play, 97-yard drive with a 47-yard touchdown pass from Alex Hornibrook to put the Friars up 7-0. The drive was set up after James Keating picked off Hawks quarterback Jack Clements deep in Malvern territory.

The Friars (8-2) took a 10-0 lead on a 30-yard field goal by Jonathan Dollfus early in the second quarter, but St. Joe's responded with a short field and capped a 10-play drive with a four-yard touchdown run by James Bell to make it 10-7.

As the home crowd started to get back into the game, Gallen silienced them quickly. The Delaware commit took a counter 70 yards to the end zone on the first play of Malvern's ensuing possession to put the Friars up 17-7 heading into halftime.

St. Joe's cut into Malvern's lead on their first possession of the third quarter. Clements scored on a four-yard run to make it 17-14 late in the third.

St. Joe's kept the game within striking distance, but Gallen was determined to not let the lead slip away.

On the Friars next possession, Hornibrook found Gallen on a 37-yard post route to give Malvern a 24-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Hawks put the pressure on Malvern midway through the quarter. De'andre Swift had 57 total yards on the drive, including a 5-yard touchdown run as St. Joe's cut the lead to 24-20 with 5:36 to play.

Thanks to Gallen, the Hawks wouldn't see the ball again.

On 3rd-and-4, Gallen caught a 9-yard pass from Hornibrook to preserve the drive with 3:40 to play. Two plays later, Gallen iced it with a 42-yard run. The Friars ran out the clock from there.

"It was important for all of us to go out on a high note,' Malvern head coach Kevin Pellegrini said. "We been through so much together and had a successful season, but we wanted this badly. It was a really good night for us.'

The Hawks (10-3) will continue their season in the PIAA playoffs against Parkland Friday at Boyertown High School. St. Joe's rotated most of their starters in-and-out throughout the game to keep them fresh for their state title run next week.

As for Gallen, he ends his career with a dominant three game run. The senior rushed for 966 yards and scored 14 touchdowns in that span as the Friars won a share of the Inter-Academic title and beat St. Joe's during the stretch.

Gallen finished the season with 1,549 rushing yards in 10 games. Knowing his time with Malvern was closing, he wanted to go out on a high note.

"I came out with a chip on my shoulder,' Gallen said. "These last couple games meant a lot to me, but I'm really going to miss playing with the guys and seeing them with the coaches every day in the locker room. That's everything to me.'

Notes: Malvern tight end/defensive end John Nassib dragged Swift back for a 12-yard loss early in the second quarter on a play in which he blew through the line and grabbed Swift once he received the ball from Clements. Nassib later had a one-handed catch that resulted in a 14-yard gain in the third quarter. It was the senior's only reception of the night.
