Wingard, who is continuing his academic and athletic career at Emmanuel College in Boston, led the Wildcats to a 9-6 record in the ultra-competitive YAIAA.
The senior also plays recreation lacrosse in the winter and summer. He plans to major in biochemistry at Emmanuel.
Before doing that, Wingard took time to answer a few questions. Here is what he had to say:
Why did you choose to play boys' volleyball?
I think just the sport in general intrigued me. My sister plays (currently at St. Francis University and formerly at Dallastown), and my dad coached it for many years. It's been a part of the family. That encouraged me to get into it and blossom, I suppose.
Do you have any superstitions on game day?
I don't think so. I'm not a very superstitious person. I just get mentally prepared and focused.
What was your favorite moment of the season?
Probably beating (defending PIAA Class AAA champion) Central (York) in five games. It was very exciting for our team. (The two teams) have a history of going back and forth and we hadn't beaten them in a few years. It was enjoyable for all of us.
If your sport wasn't offered, what would you play?
My second choice would be lacrosse. I was at the meeting to make lacrosse a (varsity) sport. But it's during the volleyball season, so I lost the chance to play lacrosse. Volleyball is a priority for me, but I'd enjoy (lacrosse) second if volleyball wasn't offered.
What is your favorite activity off the field?
Just hanging out with my friends, which can entail anything, really.
What's the farthest distance you've ever been away from home?
My family travels a lot. We're a big vacation family. I've been to most of the 50 states. The furthest point was probably California or Washington a few summers ago.
What's the best piece of advice or tip that you ever received from coach Gabe Bishard?
Our coach is very encouraging. The best piece of advice would be to never let anything that happens affect the next play or practice. You have to make yourself better no matter what happens.
Do you speak a second language? How well?
I do not. I did take Spanish for three years. I can understand it fairly well, but I have not kept up with it as well as I should have. I couldn't take it as a senior because of a schedule conflict.
Do you believe in ghosts? Ever seen one?
I'm open to the idea of ghosts. I don't see why not. There's no reason not to believe in them. It would be interesting to see a ghost but I'm just kind of waiting until they get proven.
What's your favorite TV show? Why?
Breaking Bad. It's very interesting. The story is very good and keeps me interested.
Which pro sport team is your least favorite and why?
The Ravens. It sounds strange living around here but my parents graduated from (the University of Pittsburgh) and growing up in (a pro-Steelers) environment it's always nice to see the Ravens lose.
