The Daily Record/Sunday News presents the 2012 YAIAA boys' volleyball all-stars:
CO-PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
   Kody Deiter, York Suburban, Sr., setter: Sometimes the complete picture of a player isn't measured in stats.

That's not to say Deiter, a District 3 Class AA first-team all-star and Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association all-state pick, had poor stats.

"He had a special year," Suburban coach Jamie Evans said. "The setter makes all the calls. We give him some advice of what's working and what isn't, and we talk about what we want to do, but he really runs it with what he's seeing.

"One of his best assets is knowing what's working and who has the hot hand. He can then dish it out to that person getting kills. He's able to read that."

For the record, Deiter, who will continue his playing career at Alderson-Broaddus College, had 1,117 assists, 280 digs, 42 kills and 46 blocks.

"I'm so happy for him," Evans said, "because of how far he's come."
  
   Barrett Wingard, Dallastown, Sr., outside hitter: Behind the District 3 Class AAA first-team all-star, the Wildcats went toe-to-toe with teams that turned out to be some of the state's best.

And, they beat defending PIAA Class AAA champion Central York.

"As far as our record goes, I certainly feel we had the capability to get further than we did," said Wingard.. "But I never had a more fun season, by far. Seeing everyone come together inspired us to do better this year."

The Wildcats didn't make a run to district or state gold, but it was a senior season that Wingard won't forget any time soon.

"It was a great group that came together," Wingard said. "I wish we did have a better record of had gone further but it was incredibly enjoyable. I couldn't ask for anything more."

  
FIRST-TEAM ALL-STARS
   Stephen Braswell, Northeastern, Jr., opposite: He guided Northeastern to a strong PIAA Class AA run with 511 kills and 36 aces. Braswell was named a District 3 Class AA first-team all-star and PVCA Class AA all-state pick.
Ted Hinnenkamp, York Suburban, Sr., right-side hitter: Also a standout basketball player, he was selected to the PVCA Class AA all-state team. The District 3 Class AA second-team all-star racked up 315 kills, 56 blocks, 13 aces and 88 digs for the state finalists.
   Jacob Kauffman, York Suburban, So., middle hitter: Named a District 3 Class AA first-team all-star, the sophomore accumulated 255 kills, 89 blocks and 80 aces. He also had five assists and 82 digs to help the Trojans reach the state final.
   Ryan Lamparter, Dover, Sr., opposite hitter: One of the team captains who led the Eagles on a PIAA run, the District 3 Class AA first-team all-star collected 511 kills, 22 assists, 57 blocks and 168 digs. Lamparter, a PVCA Class AA all-state pick, finished his career as a three-year starter.
   Devin Soop, Northeastern, Fr., libero: Soop piled up 425 digs as the Bobcats went 13-5. Behind him, Northeastern finished third in District 3 Class AA and advanced to the PIAA tournament. The freshman was named a District 3 Class AA second-team all-star.
  
SECOND-TEAM ALL-STARS
   Luke Braswell, Northeastern, So., setter: Braswell had an outstanding year for the powerful Bobcats with 1,097 assists and 55 blocks. Braswell was named a District 3 Class AA second-team all-star.
   Fred Gard, York Suburban, Sr., outside hitter: The PVCA Class AA all-state pick had 241 kills, 34 blocks and 37 aces. Named a District 3 Class AA first-team all-star, Gard added 377 digs and 30 assists.
   Jaryd Eshler, York Suburban, Sr., outside hitter: Eshler led the powerful Trojans to a PIAA run with 351 kills, 31 blocks and 48 aces. The District 3 Class AA second-team all-star also had 10 assists and 319 digs.
   Aaron Hoff, Spring Grove, Sr., outside hitter: A power presence, Hoff recorded 350 kills, which was good for nearly half the team total. He also added 29 blocks and 22 aces for the 7-9 Rockets. Hoff was a second-team District 3 Class AAA all-star selection.
   Tyler Lehman, Dover, Sr., outside hitter: A two-year starter and a captain in his senior year, Lehman had 360 kills, 14 assists and 25 blocks to power the District 3 Class AA runner-up Eagles to a solid showing in the state tournament. He was a PVCA Class AA all-state pick.
   Jesse Munson, senior, libero, Central York: Munson paced the Panthers with 18 aces and 137 digs. Munson also was a skilled server who generated points and limited the opponent's options with his serves.
   Spencer Ortmyer, Central York, Sr., outside hitter: Thanks to his 236 kills, 43 blocks and 10 aces, the Panthers went 8-5 and again qualified for the District 3 Class AAA tournament. The senior was a second-team District 3 Class AAA all-star pick.

  
COACH OF THE YEAR
   Jamie Evans, York Suburban: In his second stint as the Trojans' head coach, Evans led his group to numerous honors, including the YAIAA championship, District 3 Class AA title and a runner-up finish in the PIAA Class AA championships.

"I thought we had a really good chance last year of making it to the (state) tournament and just missed qualifying," Evans said. "We knew going in this was going to be a pretty special year."

Still, Evans was surprised when the first Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association rankings were released and his Trojans were in the top 10.

A few weeks later, they solidified their spot as a state contender by beating Class AA No. 1 Ambridge.

"It was a great group of guys," Evans said. "Their work ethic will lead them to success elsewhere. It was great for them to end their senior year on such a high note."
