COLONIAL PARK -- The Chambersburg boys volleyball team was hoping to clinch a top seed for the District 3 Tournament beginning Monday.

But after back-to-back 3-1 losses to Central Dauphin and Red Land on Wednesday at the Mid Penn Conference Class AAA playoffs, the Trojans will have to take the long road to postseason success.

The Trojans (10-7) will take on either Conestoga Valley or Hempfield -- the No. 2 team out of the Lancaster-Lebanon League -- in a preliminary round match at 6 p.m. at Dallastown.

"That was as bad as I've seen us play in quite a while," Chambersburg coach Kirk Crouse said. "We have to get back together and regroup for Monday."

Chambersburg opened with undefeated Central Dauphin and split the first two games, winning 25-22 in game 2 to knot the match. But the Rams rallied for wins of 25-19 and 25-22 to push the Trojans into the consolation match.

Justin Baer pounded 20 kills, Ray Frazer had eight kills and three blocks and Kyle Diller piled up 36 assists and 16 digs.

"We actually played them pretty tough," Crouse said. "But we had some mental letdowns similar to other games we've lost this year. I look at it like a boxing match -- if somebody hits you, you've got to hit them back. We did that in the game we won, but in the other games we were back on our heels and were not the aggressor."

Baer racked up 11 kills in the loss while Diller had 23 assists, seven kills and eight digs.
