ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Richard Day-Hampton, William Penn: Day-Hampton made up for lost time with an extraordinary senior season. Suspended his junior year for academic reasons, he bounced back by collecting three YAIAA golds in the 100, 200 and as the anchor for the 400 relay. He added medals in the same events a week later at the District 3 Class AAA meet (third in the 100, fifth in the 200 and third in the 400 relay), qualifying for states.
ALL-STARS
Barry Bowman, William Penn: The senior soared to a silver medal in the high jump (6-4) at the District 3 Class AAA meet and placed seventh in the long jump (21-21/2) at the same meet. He added a third medal at districts as a member of the William Penn 400-meter relay team that finished third with a state-qualifying time of 42.73.
D.J. Harrison, Central York: The speedy senior cruised to a silver-medal performance in the 100 at the YAIAA championship before heading to the District 3 Class AAA meet at Shippensburg, where he finished seventh in the 100 and 200 (11.57 and 23.05) and tied for ninth in the high jump (6-0).
Ed Holland, Red Lion: The junior knocked almost two seconds off his 1,600 second-place finish in the YAIAA championship
Jeremy Jacques, Central York: The senior qualified for states in the 400 after finishing fifth at the District 3 Class AAA championships with a time of 49.86. He followed up a first-place finish in the 800 in the YAIAA championships with an eighth-place finish at districts, where he also competed in the 200.
Chuck Lockwood, Dallastown: He followed up a bronze-medal performance in the 3,200-meter run at the District 3 Class AAA championships with a personal best run at the state meet, where the junior finished eighth, collecting his first PIAA medal with a time of 9:23.04.
Troy Lowe, South Western: The junior bettered his second-place vault in the league championships by 9 inches at the District 3 Class AAA championships, where he placed fifth with a season best pole vault of 13-3.
Karl Maynor, South Western: The Mustang took home two medals from the league meet, finishing second in the 400 with a time of 50.48 and taking home a bronze in the high jump (6-0).
Newt Miller, William Penn: Miller qualified for three District 3 Class AAA championship events, including the 200-meter run and triple jump, where he finished ninth overall (43-10 1/4). The senior ran the second leg of the District 3 third-place, state-qualifying 400-meter relay team.
Dalton Slagle, New Oxford: Slagle scorched through the 110 hurdles at the YAIAA championships with a time of 14.69 to claim the gold medal, and he followed up that performance with a sixth-place finish at districts with a time of 15.35.
Brandon Walker, William Penn: Walker followed up a gold-medal performance in the shot put (49-9) at the YAIAA championships with a sixth-place finish in the District 3 Class AAA meet on a throw of 47-91/2.
CO-COACHES OF THE YEAR
Tim Barshinger, Dallastown: Despite not having many individual stars, Barshinger was able to coax a complete team effort out of his boys' track team, as the Wildcats captured a share of the Division A crown with South Western.
Bob Shue, South Western: Lacking the star power or experience that many of his teams featured in the last 26 years, Shue was still able to lead his Mustangs to an 8-1-0 overall record and a 5-1-0 Division I record to capture a share of the Division A crown with the Wildcats.
