NEWVILLE - Chambersburg's girls cross country team took first place in Class AAA at Saturday's Bulldog Invitational at Big Spring, while the boys finished third.
The girls, who scored a 108 in the Class AAA race, had three finishers in the top 10 with Courney Group leading the pack in third. She finished in 20:03.03, less than 10 seconds behind the first-place finisher. Chambersburg girls coach Chris Monheim said it was the fastest any Trojan has performed at this course.
"She did outstanding today," he said.
The Trojans' Alex Orr finished in fifth in 20:36.06 and Megan Reel took eighth in 21:05.61. Other top Chambersburg finishers were Carolyn Dann (15th, 21:54.80), Deija McBeth (17th, 22:03.70), Mara Leary (22nd, 22:13.25) and Ally Neidigh (25th, 22:28.31).
"We kind of had a rough start to our season," Monheim said. "The girls have been running well, but our competition has been outstanding. We needed a meet like this to get back on a roll. It was the first meet this year we could leave feeling good about the situation. This will be a good way to head into the middle of the season and get ready for the postseason."
