Bannister needed 14 points to reach 1,000 career points and wasted no time doing so, hitting a pull-up jumper with 1:33 left in the first half to reach the milestone. He now has 1,006 for his career.
"It's pretty exciting," said Bannister, who is averaging 16.6 points this year. "The team was backing me the whole way, which was nice. (Reaching 1,000 points) was a goal of mine ever since I was a freshman."
Behind 15 first-half points from Bannister, who finished with 20 for the game, the Tigers (13-4, 8-3 SHL) were in front 32-18 at halftime and 44-35 entering the fourth period.
"The first half is what won the game," F-M coach Greg Best said. "We came out with a desire I haven't seen all season. It was a total team effort. It was good for Justin to get 1,000 at home, and I think we fed off that energy in the first half."
The Tigers (13-4, 8-3 SHL) played without second-leading scorer Colton Bair. But Fannett-Metal got a combined 20 points from Logan Runk (11) and Taylor Hockenberry while Ryan Dovey pumped in nine points with 11 rebounds.
"Colton couldn't play, so everybody else had to step it up a little bit more," Bannister said. "Taylor had a really good game tonight."
