PEORIA, Ariz. -- Shippensburg University baseball alum Evan Englebrook recently completed a two-month stint in the Arizona Fall League with the league champion Peoria Saguaros. Englebrook, who was recently promoted to Houston's 40-man roster, appeared in 11 games with Saguaros and did not allow a run in eight of those outings.

Englebrook, a 2004 graduate, finished his Fall League stint with 12 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings of work. Save for two unfortunate outings in which he allowed 10 runs, Englebrook otherwise allowed just one earned run in 8 2/3 innings of work. In six games away from his home ballpark, Englebrook did not allow a run in 6 2/3 innings of work while striking out six batters.

Before his activity this fall, Englebrook, at 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds, rotated between Double-A and Triple-A teams for the Houston Astros, throwing a total of 36 innings through 30 games with a 4.25 earned run average. He began the 2009 season with the Round Rock Express (AAA), appearing in nine games and totaling 10 1/3 innings while striking out eight batters.

With the Corpus Christi Hooks (AA), Englebrook was a valuable reliever and part-time closer who appeared in 21 games and posted a 3.16 ERA in 25 2/3 innings of work. Englebrook recorded nine saves and struck out 16 batters while holding opposing hitters to a .207 batting average.

training with the team next year. He was selected by the Astros in the eighth round of the 2004 Major League Baseball player draft.

As a senior at Shippensburg, Englebrook was named an ABCA First-Team All-American, posting an 11-1 record with 113 strikeouts in 86 innings. He had a career record of 22-7 with a 3.39 ERA. He struck out 236 batters in 236 1/3 innings.
