We are 1976 and 1990 graduates of Lebanon High School, and while attending LHS we both played on the baseball team, so we still follow the team very closely. What concerns us is that the LHS baseball program has obviously hit an all-time low.

The scores are so bad that when you see them posted in the newspaper or online you think it must be a misprint, but it isn’t. The team is losing by the 15- or 10-run mercy rule almost every game; it has become an absolute embarrassment for everyone associated with following the team.

In the past 10 years we have coached many of the kids who go on to play high-school baseball at LHS. We understand the academic issues that come into play, but come on, with the amount of kids in the city of Lebanon there is no reason at all that LHS can’t field a competitive baseball team. If this was the basketball team you can guarantee a change would be in store in a heartbeat, but since the baseball team doesn’t generate income for the school it sure seems like no one cares, and it is an absolute shame.

If the problem is the amount of academic issues the team has with its players, then let’s step up to the plate and reach out and help these kids in need so we can get them back on the field and heading in the right direction. We believe it’s time for Lebanon High to figure out a way to get the baseball team back on a competitive level. It has been 20 years now since the school could claim itself as a baseball

championship team. The last section title was won back in 1988 with Coach Craig Rothermel running the show.

Let’s step up, Lebanon High. It’s time to make the needed changes to fix this problem of being the baseball laughingstock of the county.
