Boiling Springs High wrestling coach Rod Wright wanted to talk Wednesday about the power point system that determines which schools make the District 3 Class AA Team Tournament and where they wrestle.

His Bubblers had just beaten Biglerville 44-24 in the semifinal round.

Having to face the Canners set him off. Warning: If you like the system, you may want to skip the next two paragraphs.

"It's clearly a great indication why this power point crap can be ridiculous at times," Wright said. "If you want to put that in the paper, go ahead. You got Upper Dauphin down there (as the No. 3 seed at the other tournament site), and the only reason Biglerville is up with us is because they wrestled somebody.

"For them to be stuck as the fourth seed, for them to be stuck with us, is ridiculous. They were clearly the third-best team. They should've been down below and facing Berm (Bermudian Springs). I think they would've had a better shot with how they matched up with them."

Biglerville must now prepare for the individual postseason tournaments as Boiling Springs (20-0) and Bermudian Springs, which won the other District 3 Class AA semifinal, advance to the PIAA Class AA Team Tournament.

"I think three teams from District 3 could wrestle with about anybody in the state," Biglerville coach Bob Gano said. "Them (Boiling Springs), us and Berm. It's a shame two of them go and one sits at home.

The Canners (20-7) will go home because of a six-bout stretch against Boiling Springs when they were outscored 35-0. The matches turned an 18-9 lead into a match-sealing 44-18 deficit.

Biglerville started the match with consecutive wins when Laike Gardner and Jasper Hankey earned major decisions against Mark Lentz and Andrew Fabo in the 132- and 138-pound bouts, respectively. The Canners extended that lead to 18-9 with three wins over the next five matches.

The match turned quickly.

Boiling Springs' Logan Murphy scored a pin of Juan Martinez at 195 in 1 minute, 2 seconds, and teammate Calvin Barrick followed by pinning Eric Showers in 1:39. Biglerville's Trevor Stover lasted until the second period, but he was ultimately pinned by Tyler Wentzel in 2:24 in the heavyweight match.

"I thought the only place we were going to have a chance to take a stand was at heavyweight," Gano said. "Maybe at 220. They're just really tough at '95, tough at other places, good at (10) 6, really good at '13."

Joey Byers' pin of Danny May in 1:47 at 113 pounds sealed the match for Boiling Springs.

The 20-point loss came after Biglerville lost to Boiling Springs at home on Jan. 11. Gano said the difference between the two nights was simple.

"We didn't wrestle well that night," he said. "We didn't wrestle with much heart. Tonight, we wrestled much better."

The Canners had little trouble advancing to the semifinal round with a 49-21 win against Schuylkill Valley (15-3). They scored the match's first 33 points.

Trevor Hernandez and Hankey started the onslaught with consecutive pins at 126 and 132 to build a 12-0 lead. Neither of their opponents, Ryan Griffiths and Ryan Ramich, lasted longer than 1:20.

The Panthers scored their first points when Biglerville forfeited the 170-pound bout. They earned three more points when Jon Tindall won a 3-1 decision against Showers at 195, and Cody Boyer followed with a pin of Martinez at 220 in 3:20.

Stover iced the match when he pinned Schuylkill Valley's Trevor Crupi in just 32 seconds to give the Canners a 43-15 lead with just three bouts remaining.

Boiling Springs, which beat Newport (15-8) 73-6 in the quarterfinals, will face a Bermudian Springs team it beat 29-26 at home earlier this season.

"I believe in my kids," Wright said. "I know they can go out and win another district championship. I think we're the team to beat in the district."
