After leading the Dallastown golf team to a runaway YAIAA Division I championship, the Wildcats' Brandon Greenplate earned his fourth straight All-Star nod and was named Player of the Year for the second straight year.
Greenplate recently discussed his future plans, the changes he'd make to the game, and the one foe that the Wildcats always strived to beat.
My dad got me into golf at a young age. I was playing competitive tournaments already at 6. I really liked the individual competition and how you can't rely on anyone but yourself.
What would you change about your sport?
If I could change anything, I would make the hole a half inch bigger. I've lipped so many putts, even a half inch how many more putts people would make.
Do you have any superstitions on match days?
I always mark with a quarter, and I always put it heads up.
What opponent gave you the most fits on the course?
I would say team wise, Central. Last year they beat us and they were always lurking this year. It was like "Don't let Central come back, don't let Central come back."
What was your favorite moment of the season?
It would be shooting a 383, the lowest score Dallastown has posted in 40 years, in our first regular season tournament. It was a good feeling to break a long-standing record.
If your sport wasn't offered, what sport would you play?
I played basketball growing up and I stopped playing sophomore year to focus on golf. If there wasn't golf I would've played basketball.
Who is your role model?
Donald Trump. I just love the way he composes himself.
Which pro sports team is your least favorite and why?
Absolutely hate the Baltimore Ravens.
In a "Freaky Friday" type move, you switch bodies with someone else. Who would you want to be for a day?
I would definitely say Bubba Watson. Playing on tour, bombing the ball, I think it would be cool to rock the pink left-handed driver just for a Friday, then we go back.
What's your favorite activity off the links?
I like hanging out with buddies and friends. I fish a lot and I enjoy to surf, playing pick-up basketball.
Favorite video game?
If you had a day all to yourself with no responsibilities, what would you do?
I would work on getting better, whether it be at golf or a better person. Make myself one step better.
What's the farthest distance you've ever been away from home?
I haven't been too far, I would say I've been to California and Florida.
What college are going to and what will you study?
I'm signed with a school in South Carolina, Coker College, a powerhouse golf school. I plan on studying in the business field.
