MECHANICSBURG -- When all was said and done, Delone Catholic's Andrea Staub was simply amazing on Day 1 of the District 3 Class AA swimming championships.

The senior, who will swim for LSU next season, earned two individual gold medals by a combined 81/2 seconds during the early sessions Friday of the two-day meet at Cumberland Valley High School.

Staub dominated the field in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly in winning her races.

Her 200 IM time of 2:05.05 was nearly seven seconds faster than the second-place finish, yet she wasn't overly thrilled with the swim.

After getting out of the water, Staub told Delone coach Jim Gingerich that she was "way too slow," in the backstroke and

breaststroke portion of her swim.

"My best time is 2:02. My middle 100 could have been faster, but I figured it out too late," Staub said. "I think I can do under two minutes. That is my goal."

She said she was "really happy" about her winning time of 56.79 in the 100 fly, which earned her a gold by a margin of a second and a half.

Both times should make her high seeds for the upcoming PIAA championships.

"Right now, I am more time-oriented than place," Staub said before leaving Cumberland Valley for Annapolis, Md., to swim in the Maryland All-Stars competition with her North Baltimore Aquatic Club today and Sunday.

The YAIAA was well represented in that 100 fly as Dover's Aniella Janosky (1:00.16) finished fifth. York Suburban freshman Erin Merkle (1:00.64) finished tied for sixth, and her Trojan teammate, Jessica Hawk (1:01.78), was eighth.

Also in the 100 fly, York Country Day senior Shannon Mulcahy -- six months removed from rotator cuff surgery -- finished a solid 11th with a time drop down to 1:02.67.

Suburban's Patricia Manning (2:20.35) scored an eighth-place medal in the girls' IM.

Dover's quick start: The Eagles got the YAIAA on the Class AA medal stand early when the team of Christina Janosky, Bree Link, Aniella Janosky and Courtney Dacheux swam a school-record 1:53.01 to earn bronze in the girls' 200 medley relay.

coach Rich Janosky said. "We emphasize getting that snowball rolling, so it was very important to get the first relay out there and do well."

In that same event, the York Suburban foursome of Helen Gunn, Manning, Hawk and Samantha Strickler scored a fifth-place medal in 1:56.82.

Both schools added medals in the girls' 200 free relay, with the Trojans taking seventh (1:46.62) and Dover eighth (1:47.37).

More YAIAA medals: A trio of YAIAA boys earned medals in Class AA, with West York sophomore Brad Strathmeyer scoring a fifth-place medal in the 100 fly with a 54.03.

The fly also brought home sixth-place hardware for Delone's Chris Gebhart, who swam a 54.46.

Suburban's Ben Hassinger finished seventh in the 50 free with a solid 22.51.

District records: Muhlenberg opened the day by setting a new district girls' AA mark in the medley relay with its time of 1:48.34, besting the mark set in 2006 by Hershey. ... Speaking of Hershey, the Trojan boys' medley-relay time of 1:32.22 smashed York Suburban's two-year-old mark by five seconds. ... David Nolan of Hershey broke his own district mark from last spring in the IM with his 1:49.64. Teammate Sean Grier (49.57) took down Suburban grad Kevin Marsteller's mark in the 100 fly.
